By nature Mister and I are the giving type of people. We enjoy doing things for others, no matter how small or simple. For Thanksgiving he brought home CASES of freshly made pies from work and we not only passed them out to family and friends but our closest neighbors. Also last week he put the lights up on our house and because we have an abundance of lights he went ahead and put them on our neighbor’s house, too. Its just a husband and wife, the man works ALL DAY LONG so it was just a nice gesture on Mister’s part.
So this morning I took the dog out then closed up the house because it was cold, later the girls took the dog out, again, and when they came in Drama Queen asked me Mom, when did you put a wreath on our screen door? I was like What are you talking about? Then she showed me and sure enough tied to our security door was a beautiful wreath with a big red ribbon on it.
Come to find out our new neighbor, Alex, has the same wreath, he took it upon himself to buy/make us one, too. I have to say it was a nice shock to me. Not because they’re not nice, no, its just that they haven’t lived here very long and quite honestly 90% of our neighbors keep to themselves, with the exception of our back neighbor whom I’ve known for 25+years, back when I lived here as a child, she and I are close.
Its nice to know there are kind neighbors out there, still. Sadly you don’t see much neighborly love in our area. So being on the receiving end of a kind neighborly gesture was a new experience for me. Now I know how my neighbors and friends feel when we do things for them Just because.

My dad always used to tell me that if we all looked out for each other, we would never have to look out for ourselves…there is some truth to this. I am glad to see that it comes out every once in a while.

Pay it forward, that was great of your neighbors. I find myself even more giving in tough times like we’re having now. And I can fully attest to the fact that you and Mr. do enjoy giving/helping. I’ve been on the receiving end of it, I know.

How wonderful!! That is so rare for neighbors to connect with each other now. We rarely talk to our neighbors anymore…although most are old or scary so I don’t really want to!

I can’t see the giving so much around here. I guess it is the weather. But what a great story!

Aw! How nice! Our neighbors haven’t stolen our car, so I’m just thankful for that.

You just inspired me. I think I’ll buy wreaths for my two neighbors on the way home tonight.
