I have not attended school since 1991, when I graduated. When I was on maternity leave with Drama Queen I took a word processing class at the local night school but that was also ten years ago and easy as pie. But now that I’ve been forced to re-evaluate my career I’ve decided to head in a new direction.
I don’t want to spend my days taking phone orders from customers the way I did for five years. Nor do I want to be in sales any longer, as I had been for the last four years. I need a desk job, M-F, 8-5 because I have to get my kids dropped off at school each morning. So I’m heading to school to become certified in the H.R. field. Lord help me. lol
There is a 6-8 week certification course at a local college I’m going to be calling on today, plus University of Phoenix has an on-line class I can look into as well. Going into H.R. is perfect for me because every day is different and not the same hum-drum crap I had the last few years of my Inside Sales position. Plus the starting pay is right where I need to be, even entry level.
So wish me luck and tell me I’m not making a mistake going back to school. It was either this or Lottery millionaire but I can’t seem to find that application on monster.com.

Good luck! You are definitely not making a mistake. Adding to your education is always a good thing. Well, unless you are educating yourself in devil-worship or sumpin’ that might not be so good.
Hey, if you find that application for Lottery Millionaire, let me know. I’m sure Michigan could use one.

School is the best thing to do when re-evaluating your career. I earned my Bachelor degree in 1992. I started my MBA in 2007. 15 years later. It has been an awesome experience. You can do it. Be a Phoenix.

Cece,
My prayers are with you. I am confident that you will be a success at whatever you do. I agree with you however. Finding that job that can meet one’s schedule, especially with kids…is tough!

I think this is so fantastic! I’m totally behind you.
Actually I was doing some job searching this evening. You know how I don’t have health insurance right? Well if I had a job that paid less but had health insurance it would totally be worth it. Plus I feel the sales thing is causing too much stress on my body.
Maybe we both could go on a new journey!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I’m so excited and nervous thinking Me? Going back to school? Are you KIDDING??? lol But I had burnt out at my old company. And yesterday I got a lead on a possible job opening for a smaller company in the same field I had been working in. A vendor I’ve known for years made a call to a GM that my mom worked w/years ago & told him about me & my situation, he said for me to call him. But do I REALLY want to go back to that field JUST b/c a job is possible? Hmmm, I’ve got some thinking to do. HOpefully the school info will come soon & I can base my decision from there. Oy talk about scary huh?

I think that is a great idea! You have the perfect opportunity to take advantage of a new career path since you don’t need to panic and get a new job right away. That way you can get the hours you need and the pay level you need/want.
Good luck!

Go for it, I teach high school students and adults and the adults who return to education are a joy to work with. Although it’s hard combining studying with family life, you won’t regret it.
