Happy Halloween, Ho’s!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:27pm by Cece

Every year I take vacation time to come home, pick up my girls, get them ready and head to Norwalk to BBQ & ToT at our friend’s house.   This year I’m home!  Woohoo!  lol  So far Mister & I went out to lunch (and beer) with my step-son and his fiance’ and now we’re getting the kids ready.  I’ve got a DQ to pick up from sewing class in ten minutes then get ‘em ready and head out.

Mister has missed Halloween with us for the last four to five years, this year he’s got the day off!  Woohoo!  His job started calling him at 11′ish for “an emergency order placed”.  He finally took the call and told them he’s in San Diego and won’t make it in until tomorrow night.  (You go Mister!)  He did ask for the day off in advanced so for them to call now is sort of fucked up but whatever, he’s still not going in tonight.

So I’ve got my kids dressed and just about ready to go so you all have a safe weekend!  Slick, don’t party too hard.  Ho.

Had a near employment opportunity yesterday

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 6:57am by Cece

Y’all remember why I’m a SAHM now, right?  I got laid off because the company that bought us no longer has the department I was working in, for the last four years, so off with us.  Well yesterday I was chatting with my mom while she was at work (she’s the company receptionist) and the HR recruiter asked about me because the “new” company has a position open that is very similar to what I was doing and wondered if I’d be interested in applying.    I was honored to hear they thought of me so I called H.R. and left a message later that morning.

Well it wasn’t until mid afternoon when I was out picking my kids up from school that the H.R. lady from the new company called me back.  Come to find out my phone number had been passed around a few times yesterday, one being by my old boss who hired me into his sales department four years ago.   He’s the one I crushed on and would, try hard not to glance at his crotch.   lol

Come to find out “new company” pays MUCH less than my old one did.   Actually for doing the same job I’d be looking at about $700 less a month, and that is before taxes and the cost of our health insurance.   I told Mister Is it worth it?   Can we make it?   I’ll still get my severance but eventually that money will run out and in the end we’ll still be $700-$1000 short a month.    We could make it if he took over my car payment (which I knew wouldn’t happen  lol).   So in the end we decided its not worth the foreseen struggle and I declined.

We still have my five months of severance coming in plus unemployment in the bank.   I’m going to be calling a few schools this morning and see what I can find out for the H.R. Certification I’m looking for.   I’ve got to tell you, deep down a little part of me was not ready to go back to work yet, either.  I’m enjoying being home with my kids and husband.   And as I told Craze, yesterday, for some odd reason I’m not worried about the future right now.   I don’t know why, either, because worry is a natural part of being a Cancer woman.    For some reason I’m hopeful about what 2009 has in store for me.

Well I’m off to get my kids ready for school, work out, clean house, call schools and get lunch ready for Mister.    I’m digging the SAHM thing…for now.   Wait til the kids are on vacation, I’ll be singing a different tune then.   lol

Saturday night in the ghetto

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , at 10:55am by Cece

Yesterday was my sister’s birthday so we gathered at my parents house for a small celebration, Mexican style with tacos, beer and Margaritas.    The night went off without a hitch until about 9pm when we heard breaks squeal and the sound of a car crash.   My parents live in townhomes that are near an intersection so its not uncommon to see/hear accidents on this corner.  This accident, however, was the most wowing ever.

Apparently the police were chasing a car and the car went through a red light hitting another car.  The woman in the other car was taken to the hospital and I hope she is alright.  The driver of the car being chased ran.   He ran through my parents complex and all we heard from the guys were CATCH THAT GUY!  CATCH HIM!   Mister being the closest threw his drink and chased the kid.   Just as Mister was about to jump the brick wall to go after him the police caught up to him and pulled their guns out on Mister!   Ordered him down searched and questioned him.  All the while Mister is yelling that the kid just jumped the wall and got away.   Later they called Mister’s cell phone to come make an identification because the apprehended someone.  Turns out it wasn’t him and the guy was let go.

We don’t know how, where or why the police chase started but the crash was so bad they blocked the street off for at least an hour, so we were all stuck at my parents house, forced to drink more.  ;)

We’re just amazed by seeing what that kid did to his car that he was able to walk away, let alone run, from the accident.   This is what he did with his car:

Yup, that is a car wedged between the brick wall and a light pole on the sidewalk!  Just another crazy night in the ghetto!

I swear I have the stupidest neighbors

Posted in Uncategorized tagged at 6:50am by Cece

We live in a complex where there are seven houses on our driveway, we are the fifth house back from the street.   Us and the ladies in the back have been here the longest.  We’ve got nine years here and they’ve got over twenty-something, so we’ve seen neighbors come and go over the years.

Recently we had new neighbors move into the second house, a Mexican family.  I really have no idea who lives in that house because it seems like there’s always someone new there.  But whatever that’s their business.  But what I do know is there are two little girls and one little boy there.  The boy is about six, one girl is about three and the baby, still in diapers, is about two.    One evening the girls and I were coming back from a walk and the youngest girl was headed right for the street!   Their front screen door was wide open and no one was watching her!   I grabbed her and took her back to the house, knocked on the door and handed the lady the baby.   Pissed at their negligence I walked away.

We have a wicker’ish shapped pumpkin that has beautiful white lights weaved into it that we set out at night instead of a real pumpkin.   When its dark its a beautiful display.   Well one night last week, and I do mean night, I hear a knock on our front door.  Open it up and what do I find on my porch?   The two little girls, in pj’s, barefoot and a diaper only, at my door rapping away in Spanish about the pumpkin.   When I told them to go home they began to pull on my front door like they wanted to come in!   *sigh*

I went outside, grabbed them by the hands and lead them down the driveway.  Remember I don’t speak Spanish so I’m not much help to them.  I found a neighbor who did speak Spanish and told the kid what was going on.  We took them to their house and what did I see as I walked up to the door?   Not surprisingly, the screen door WIDE the fuck open but the mom on the couch, laughing, talking and flirting away with some man.  Her boyfriend?  Husband?  Don’t know but she was so into him that she didn’t notice the front door was open and at 8:30′ish her two young kids were not in the house!

When the neighbor kid talked to the mom and put the babies in the house she started yelling at them!   I just walked away.

These people don’t know us.  They don’t know that we’re not perv’s.  We could’ve easily ushered the kids inside our house and no one would’ve been any wiser because it was late and dark.   I tell you, I really don’t like these idiots.    I swear, I have the stupidest neighbors.    And don’t let me get started on the dude next door who I think just opens his door and lets his dogs out so they don’t have to walk them.  GRRR!

I can’t believe I’m considering this

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , at 7:00am by Cece

I have not attended school since 1991, when I graduated.   When I was on maternity leave with Drama Queen I took a word processing class at the local night school but that was also ten years ago and easy as pie.  But now that I’ve been forced to re-evaluate my career I’ve decided to head in a new direction.

I don’t want to spend my days taking phone orders from customers the way I did for five years.   Nor do I want to be in sales any longer, as I had been for the last four years.   I need a desk job, M-F, 8-5 because I have to get my kids dropped off at school each morning.    So I’m heading to school to become certified in the H.R. field.   Lord help me.  lol

There is a 6-8 week certification course at a local college I’m going to be calling on today, plus University of Phoenix has an on-line class I can look into as well.   Going into H.R. is perfect for me because every day is different and not the same hum-drum crap I had the last few years of my Inside Sales position.  Plus the starting pay is right where I need to be, even entry level.

So wish me luck and tell me I’m not making a mistake going back to school.  It was either this or Lottery millionaire but I can’t seem to find that application on monster.com.

I’m trying to get into the swing of things

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 9:14am by Cece

So being unemployed isn’t all that bad, yet.  I had my HR meeting on Friday and found out that I’ve got three months of severance.  So right now I’m on payroll for two more months, I’m still accruing vacation, sick and sales bonuses.   Come the last pay check for me in December I’ll be paid out for sick and vacay.   Then my severance kicks in and I’ll be able to apply for unemployment, which I’ll bank because I still have a healthy twelve weeks of severance coming in.   The first thing I’ve got to concentrate on is finding some sort of affordable health insurance for the kids.  We’re looking into Mister’s job and I’m researching online, too.   So we’ll see what happens there.  My job is also offering two outplacement courses next week that I’m going to attend and take advantage of all they’re giving us.

So the nice side of being out of work is I don’t have to get up at 4:50 am to work out, now I can sleep til 6am and work out when the kids go to school.   I get to pick my kids up from school and help them with homework.  I’ve got more time with Mister, too.  As a matter of fact I told him Its a good thing you and I get along very well because we’re going to be spending A LOT of time together the next five months!  lol  I get to take care of errands and chores during the day while the kids are at school.  Monday Mister and I are driving up to Barstow to hit the Coach outlet for an incredible sale so I can pick up a couple of Christmas gifts.  I’ve yet to clean and organize the shit out of my house but that’ll come next week, when I don’t have to keep running back and forth to the office.

It looks like I’m going to take advantage of this time off and work the stay at home mom thing for a bit.   God help me.   lol  This is the first time in almost fifteen years that I haven’t worked so its new territory for me.  Wish me luck!

New life

Meet Joshua Brian (such a white name for a Mexican baby huh?  lol).  He was brought into this world yesterday, October 15 at 12:43 by c-section.  He came in weighing 7lbs 9oz & 21″ long.  He’s sweet, quiet, calm and curious.   He smells good and looks like a boy right from the start of his life.  He’s going to have strong features.   He’s got my sister’s eyes and nose.  My dad’s chin & his daddy’s mouth and feet.   He’s tiny and snuggly and I already fell in love with him.  The family is healthy and happy and my sister is recovering well after surgery.   Can’t wait to spoil him!

A low & a high in my life

Posted in Uncategorized tagged at 9:34pm by Cece

Today (yesterday to some) is 30 years my parents have been married.  They joined union when I was five years old.   They spent the weekend alone in Laughlin, chilllin and romancing.  Good for them.

Today (yesterday for most) was a sucky ass day for me.  I lost my job.    After 9 years with my company I’m unemployeed.   I sold office supplies for as long as I’ve had my kids but shit happens in a sucky ass fucken ecomony.   I’ve been given 60 days notice, with pay and no work.   So I get to stay home with my girls, look for work AND get paid.   I know I’m lucky.   It still sucks ass though.

So that is my LOW.   Well that and the fact that after 30’something days of not smoking I decided to smoke!  Talk about low.  But my HIGH?  Guess what?  I’m going to be a tia again, today!!!  Yes, Peeps, I’m going to be an auntie to a NEPHEW!   OMG seriously an auntie to a fricken BOY???   Yay!!  Um,   by the way, I don’t know what to do with boys!!!   loll  Well thankfully I’ve got LOTS of time on my hands for babies!!  lol

So by the time you read this my sister will have HOPEFULLY have delivered (without incident) my big ass nephew and all is well.

Life sucks for me, sort of, but you know what they say:  When one door closes another one opens.   Wish me luck, yo.

Match the artist with their fever

Posted in Uncategorized tagged at 8:44am by Cece

Without Googling it see if you can match the “fever” songs to the correct artist:

1.   “Scarlet Fever”                               a.  Ted Nugent
2. “Jungle Fever”                                 b. The Kinks
3. “Hay Fever”                                     c. Kenny Rogers
4. “Night Fever”                                 d. The Bloodhound Gang
5. “Cat Scratch Fever”                        e. Stevie Wonder
6. “Yellow Fever”                               f. The Bee Gees

I only knew one correct answer.

Same story, different year

Posted in Uncategorized tagged at 9:02am by Cece

All morning the new has been reporting on a large CA fire.  Seems like once October rolls in so does fire season.   L.A. County has been gearing up for this all weekend because the Santa Ana winds were kicking up and those are a PITA for our fire fighters.

When I stepped out at 5:30 to exercise this morning the air was cool and crisp.  And in the crispness of the air lingered the faint scent of smoke, even though the Little Tujunga fire is many many miles from us.  Unfortunately for CA, its just the beginning.

After we deal with a month or two of wild fires we’ll get rain in December/January, which should be appreciated after two months of fires, right?  Wrong.  When our rain comes, so do the mudslides.  Which always leads me to asking the same question each year, Why do rich Californians build their damn houses on the side of a hill/mountain?  Yeah I get the view is spectacular and all that but c’mon people!  We get fires, floods and then you lose your house!   This is the part of living in CA that I like the least, obviously.

I remember a few October’s ago Mister had driven my sister out to the desert to go pick up her boyfriends sisters because the fires on Highway 15 were the worst we’ve ever seen.  Normally an hour and half round trip took them almost five hours to get there and back because they had to go around the fires, into Big Bear and back down.  The sisters stayed down here for about two weeks.  My kids were small and it was hard to explain to them why they couldn’t go outside.   I remember my truck being light brown and grey due to the thickness of ash that settled on the black paint.   I remember the air being brown, hazy and THICK.   We had our doors and windows closed, ceiling fans going non-stop and breathing was hard to do when you stepped outside.  Not to mention blinking and seeing.

So far things where I am haven’t reached this condition, yet, but with the winds shifting and fires jumping its hard to say what it’ll be like tonight, tomorrow or hell even in an hour!
