It rained Friday night. Heavily. I’ve never camped in the rain but we maned up and did it anyway. Well, mostly.
Since I left work at 5:00 on Thursday I was not going to be a happy camper. I drove home in crazy ass rain to find Mister, my dad and grandpa loading up the truck for camping. You’re shitting me, is what I said to myself as I got out of the car. Nope. No one was shitting me. We were going to camp in the rain. Great.
Friday we got up to the lake and it was a little sunny, but not Memorial weekend sunny like its suppose to be. We set up camp, cracked open a couple of beers & chilled. Then it began to rain, lightly at first, on us. No big deal. Then came the black clouds and POURING rain. Luckily we had the Quick Shades up so we took cover.
Us girls ended up driving into Hesperia, a town about 30 minutes North of us, for a Kmart run to buy blankets and water proof jackets. Um, do you know how hard it is to find shit like that at the end of fricken MAY??? Yeah, not too easy. Luckily we found a clearance rack in the women’s department that had $2 rain jackets! Then we found some nice blankets, also on clearance, for $5. Sweet.
When we got back to camp Mister had pulled the tarp from under our tent and draped it over to prevent further leakage. Oh I didn’t tell you about that part? Yeah, we had a few small tent leaks and our shit got wet. Important shit, too, like pillows, sleeping bags and air mattress! That’s it! That’s it! I’m done! I made an executive decision for my family, we were going home. I told Mister I’m taking my girls, his daughter and my grandma home for the night. Told him he could stay, and be big and bad (while wet) or go home with us. I didn’t care. But WE were going home.
And home we went. We dropped Mister off with all our wet stuff, took grandma home then went to get Chinese food! Hot meal, hot shower and some Gray’s Anatomy on the dvr is how we spent our rainy Friday night! Then back up to the lake at 7am the next morning. The rest of the weekend was much better, no rain at least just wind. We rode the hell out of the Sea Doo, too. That is until my step-daughter and her boyfriend flipped it on Sunday! lol
All in all it was a good weekend. My cousins and their families came up and camped next to us. It was good to see them. And wouldn’t you know it, this coming weekend is suppose to be HOT up there! lol I’m going to try to get Mister up to the lake on Sunday, just for the day. I need to start on my tan.
Oh yeah, I’ll share pictures later and a video my cousin’s wife took of my kids totally wiping out on the wagon coming down a hill! LMAO

Sounds like you had a great time despite the crappy weather to start the weekend.

I’m surprised you didn’t stick it out but more surprised that you went back. I’m such a wimp when it comes to rain.

I’m not big on camping and throw rain in the mix…no way. So I applaud you did what you did and had a good time at it.

It’s always a miserable weekend here for Memorial Day weekend. We usually end up working the whole weekend but one of these years I am going to go camping at least once during the summer!

Ha! I can so relate……we tent camped in Northern Wisconsin at Copper Falls State Park and when we woke up on Saturday morning? – 35 FRICKIN DEGREES!! We were a bunch of shivering, cold cheeseheads…..no rain, but plenty of cold.
Wish I would have been smart enough to head home!

I’m with you… I am not hard core enough for wet camping! I think your plan was perfect.

Glad you packed up and left the rain! The rest of the trip sounds damn fun. What? You didn’t fall into the tent this year? LMAO!
