Ain’t that the truth? Several times I’ve gone to the corner “beauty place” to get my hair cut/trimmed. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with that place. When its cut right I absolutely LOVE my hair. When its cut wrong, like when they BUTCHER me, I absolutely hate the shop and everyone there! Then I get mad at myself for going back and “giving them one last try.” Ugh.
One last try was last September when my hair was cut so short that the lady gave me bangs. Um, I’ve got really curly hair and cannot rock bangs. So I’ve had to wear my hair pulled back for almost 6 MONTHS to have enough grow out to get it cut again. And in those 6 months I can now see how uneven my hair was. Embarrassed is what I should be! Thankfully my hair is curly enough that if you’re not really looking at it you can’t tell.
That was a $12 haircut that included a tip. Uh yeah, can you see where I’m going here? Not to mention that the shop workers/stylists are predominantly Spanish speaking and my white-Latina ass cannot speak/understand them so I’ve jut dealt with the shitty cuts. Not anymore though! Yesterday I drove all the way back to my job area and went to a WHITE people’s salon! I had my hair cut by a white chick named Cheryl! Yay for English speaking peeps! lol
I showed her a picture of what I wanted, from years ago, and told her to “Please fix my hair as best you can” and proceeded to tell her my $12 hair cut nightmare. Homegirl took her time cutting and shaping my hair. She asked ME questions about what I wanted! Oh I didn’t know what to do! I actually was having FUN getting my hair cut! hehe
By the time I left there I paid nearly $25 for my hair cut but hot damn its worth it, because I look GREAT today! Then I went home and colored the greys trying to peek out and got rid of those suckers! I think its a little too dark, but then again I always think its too dark at first! lol Oh yeah, I’m so ready to rock Vegas next week! And you can bet your ASS I won’t be paying $12 for a hair cut and tip ever again!

OMG, I cannot get a cut in NYC for less than $60. This city sucks. I want a decent hair cut for $25!
Post some photos for us!

You’re KIDDING me? Seriously? OMG! And just today a co-worker gave me a flyer to her daughter’s new shop. I looked at the price of $50 FOR A FRICKEN CUT ONLY! Laughed & tossed the flyer away!
Pictures? Wha? *blushing* lol

I’ve only recently grown up (in the past year) and found myself an actual stylist. It makes a world of difference!

I know my $30 cuts are expensive. But I just can’t trust my head to a joint like Supercuts anymore. Nuh uh.
Though I remember when I was 14 this chick gave a haircut and I looked like the guy from Flock of Seagulls. My Mom insisted on running errands, and not dropping me off at home so I could wash the space age polymer out of my hair. Oh, 14 y/o me was SO mad!

My hair cuts are so expensive but they’re so worth it. I’ve had my share of horrible haircuts. My first, and last, supercuts haircut was awful…she cut my hair while it was still parted on the side so when I combed it out and took out the part it was completely uneven!!!

$12? That is amazing. I don’t think I could go to supercuts for that cheap and this is Oklahoma!
I really like when my SIL does my hair but because she secretly hates my brother, I get scared of her. It is like the photo shoot, I had her cut it but waited to tell her until after what I was doing. She knows I am going to Vegas. But damn, she is good at what she does.

Ok, Beej’s Flock of Seagulls comment has me cracking up. LMAO!
I’ve got to call my stylist tomorrow and get an appointment for a cut. I colored my grays yesterday and I think I finally found the perfect color.
You went with the first Vegas hair, right? That was so damn cute on you.

Oh I am SO with you on this one!!! I used to have aguy who cut my hair….I loved him. But he died of heroin overdose
… I’ve tried the “$11.50″ haircuts…HORRIBLE!!! and I have STRAIGHT hair!!! My kids have curly/kinky hair, so I know what you’re talking about. Why can’t people cut curly hair? My daughter finally found a woman in Akron who cut her curls ONE. AT. A. TIME. YA! she LOVED her hair…but then she had to move to North Carolina.
I STILL haven’t found someone to cut my hair the way I like….

yeah, Sue, I went w/the first Vegas cut but I think I should’ve went shorter. Then if I would’ve went shorter I would’ve regreted how short I went, huh? LMAO You know me, never happy! hehehe
Beth, curly hair is a curse & a blessing, that’s for sure.

I one time paid 150$ to get my hair fried off…
Ohhh let me tell you…
I had been going to this particular hair dresser for a while and one day…
she burned all my hair off…
it took almost two years to grow it back…
I think I have post traumatic stress from that incident..
Have funn in Vegas baby!!!

I made that same mistake years ago. Never go to the corner hair places!! ACK!! Got a butcher job, too! To me….my hair kinda makes “me”. I know that sounds silly but it’s like my security blanket or something. If I don’t feel my hair looks good, then I don’t feel good. Yanno what I mean? You absolutely do get what you pay for!!
I am glad that you got a good ‘do this time!! I am sure you feel (and look!) awesome!!

The Diva's Thoughts
A bad haircut will definitely put you in rotten mood. I know..I’ve had my share of HORRIFIC hair cuts.

That is exactly why I love me curls… They can somewhat disguise a bad cut, for a little while anyways. I had a stylist who performed the perfect cut ONE Time. I went back several times only to continually be misshaped, uneven and gaped. I went so far as to become my own stylist for several years. Imagine holding your wet head upside down for 30 minutes trying to get a straight cut (when you flipped back upright the layers were perfect!!) But I have slowly begun to seek out another stylist. I have gotten one good cut in the past 2 years
Maybe it is time to go stand on my head again.
