Every time I watch Miami Ink I get the urge for a new piece. That’s a picture of Kat Von D right there. That woman is awesome. Not only does she have talent, she’s beautiful, she seems to be a very real & down to earth person.
I would not only love to meet her but get work done by her. But damn, I’d probably have to take out a small loan to be able to afford a fist rate piece of work done by her.
Are you like me, when you see people in public with LOTS of tattoo’s, like Kat, you just want to stop them and ask Can I look at your tat’s? I’m sure I could ask and they’d feel honored because, really, that’s why they’re there and visible, right? But you don’t want to feel like a jackass and appear uncool. Yeah, that’s me too. I try not to appear to stare, either. But sometimes I can’t help it. I’m drawn to tattoo’s.
I’ve noticed more and more woman have tattoo’s these days. And I’m not talking just biker broads, either. Drama Queen’s kindergarten teacher had a tat on the top of her foot. It didn’t phase me one bit. Could be because I’ve got tat’s and I’m not a freak. Well, that could be debated so we won’t go there.
Does it freak you out to see woman with tattoo’s? Does it look trashy? Cool? Do you have them? Would you get one? Would you get more, if you do have them? What is it about tattooing that is so fricken addictive? I’ve got 7 and would love more, but don’t know where to put ‘em because I work in an office and having sleeve’s of tat’s may not be so office appropriate.
Is it the addiction to the pain? Or the excitement of something new to show off? I don’t know that answer but I still want more ink.

Good post. I think Kat is a gorgeous woman, I love her work, she’s a true artist. But on the other hand I think she’s gone over board with them. I myself dont mind a small one here or there. But when they get that big and all over I do think it kind of looks trashy.
I’ve heard its very addicting. My Kat whos 18 has two tattoos now, one on her inner upper arm of 4 chinese symbols, meaning life, death, spirit and energy. This one I dont mind, but she has to cover it up when dancing. Then she got a (well I think its big) bit tattoo on her lower back of a lilly and the word “imagine’ scrolled on the bottom. For John Lennon. I dont care for it, its about 4 inches round. It is well done though, but everytime I see it from a distance it looks like a grey/black blob. Both her tattoos are done in shades of black. The big one cost her $324. She says she’d like to get another one in 5 years, and she’s waiting that long cuz she fainted with the last one.
I always told Kat to put them where they wouldnt be that noticable, because one day, like you, she’d have to get a job, and it may be hard to get when covered in them.
Who really knows…bottom line. I love the look of a few here and there, but not the all over sleeve types. Lol and 2 is more than enough on my own kid.

I’ve got 5 tattoos…1 on each ankle, 1 on my stomach, 1 on my hip and 1 on my lower back. I’ve thought of getting more, but not sure where or what. I don’t think it’s trashy at all. My tattoos are just a part of me as my hands or feet…it’s just who I am!

Oh, The Joys
I can’t get one. Not because I don’t like them, but because I can’t even settle on a bumper sticker on the car. I would want to tear it off and change it too often.

Hmm.. im trying to think of my automatic reactions to women with ink. Some look trashy, as you said. but it usually comes with the whole picture. If she’s got crooked yellow teeth, track marks, and has more boob hanging out than is covered up, then yeah, tats just enhance the trashyness. if its a girl who is dressed conservatively or shy or simple, but theres a tat peeking out somewhere, every guy instantly wonders what her other personality is like. Every guy checks for the “target” (the tat just above the pants line on the lower back) and correct or incorrect, it sends the “easy” message. butterflies and ladybugs send messages, too. I guess there’s no way to pigeonhole what guys think of girls with ink.
The bottom line is, the ink will definitly get you noticed, but there will usually be some sort of preconcieved judgement that comes hand-in-hand with being noticed.
I say get an achor on your bicept.

I love tattoos too. I only have 2 but I’d like to get more. I’d never get a full sleeve done though. I just don’t care for how it looks (except on certain guys). plus like you, I work in an office where I serve OLD PEOPLE and you know how OLD PEOPLE are…lol

Miranda, I like the tat on your Kat’s arm of the 4 symbols. It sounds nice! I’ve got a high tolerance to pain so that’s never an issue with me. Ha! Its ok, I love long replies!
Mo2, I’ve got one on each shoulder/back, two on my left ankle, one on top of my right foot, one wrapped around my right ankle & one around my belly button. That one was done when I was 20 & pre baby & pre baby FAT! lol Like you,its a part of me. My kids don’t trip or anything. My little one asks to see them sometimes. lol
Joys, maybe THAT’S why they’re so addicting! I think you solved the puzzle. They become addictive b/c you’re always changeing your mind & since you can’t change your tat you just get a new one!
Bones, crooked teeth & track marks? Ewww! lol I know that men look for the one on the lower back. Hell even I look for them there, I think its b/c its such a common place now. Where’s the crativity? Anchors ARE sexy, baby!
Web, I don’t think I could do a sleeve, either. Now a dainty band around my arm? Maybe. Old people judge way too much! lol

All I can think is “Man, she’s gonna look terrible when she’s old” when I see that much ink on a woman. Hell, I think that about an man too. Like, when she’s older and her skin isn’t as firm, then the tats will look like that Dali painting where all the clocks are melting.

Oh hell no. Don’t you come near me with a needle.
If you lived here, they are very noticeable. Adam wears shorts a lot of the time and people stare. Mainly children. A few times people ask to look at them and it brings a smile to his face. Sometimes the staring makes him feel like he is being judged.
I can’t see myself ever getting one. Maybe when I have a kid and then I will put their name on me but I can’t see anything that I would want forever.

Janet a.k.a. "Wonder Mom"
I have two. I’m workin’ on my third.
I love them. On women as well as on me. Especially when they are done right. They are living artwork and I stop people all the time when I see a cool tat that I want to get a closeup of…I haven’t met a person yet, who wasn’t proud of them, when I praise them…
Great post.

An interesting question. To be honest here I don’t like tattoos on men or women but especially on women. To me it shows a lack of respect for your body to treat it as a billboard. I don’t see any difference between her tattoos and the graffiti under the bridge. But I guess I understand why someone might want one, perhaps for a way to set themselves apart from the crowd, to show off something they have strong feelings about, but still to permanently deface your body seems a brutal thing to do to yourself.

“I work in an office where I serve OLD PEOPLE and you know how OLD PEOPLE are…lol”
I know how they are. Right, Cece?
I lurves me some ink.
As you know, I have two on my back, but I would LOVE to have my entire back done. I have a design I want.
Pman, however, I think would freak out if I got that much ink. He’s anti-tattoo though, not so much on me, he deals with mine fine, but I think if I got my back done the way I want it would not be kosher with him.
My dream job would be Kat’s. Love her. Would love ink from her. Yadda yadda yadda.

Mind, Mister knows a guy who got a portrait done by Kat. He said its AWESOME! He didn’t have the balls to ask about the price, though. lol
Yeah, Kat’s got my dream job, too! I could look at Nunez allllll day. Grrrrr baby!

Cece, I do find her very hot. Some may think she’s overdone, but I don’t think so. I think tattoos on women are terrific.
And if I saw her on the street I would definitely ask to see her tatts. That’s why folks get these … so they can show them. And they’re always very pleased to do so. One woman I asked even took me aside and showed me one … er … well, in a place where she basically had to undress herself. Didn’t seem to bother her much!

I have never had one, but John Irving’s “Until I Find You” really intrigued me. I hadn’t realized that they were addictive.
Please post a picture of yours. I’d love to see them.

Craze
I also love Kat!! I’m like you I want to ask people all about their ink when I see them. For so long tattoos represented the prison and gang population. I think people are now beginning to realize it is a true art. Professional ink can be beautiful. It’s not always done by hand by some dude name Smiley in a 4×4 cell anymore.
As women, (and men) I think we should be able to tattoo ourselves wherever we want without the fear of losing our jobs. I was much relieved when I found out (where I work) the Presidents wife has a couple of tats.
I’m definately getting a few more, I think my next one will be the cancer symbol and I’m toying with the idea of having it put on the back of my neck.

I’ve only got one, but I love it. I’m not interested in getting more unless I find something that feels intrinsic to who I am as a person. My one and only tattoo is very special to me.
I don’t think it looks trashy, but sometimes I do question (to myself) what prompted someone to get their tattoo, especially if it seems a frivolous image to me. Granted, it may be meaningful to the person with the tat, but I often wonder if people regret some of these tats later on.

Craze, the crabs & sea-shells on top of my foot is my love for being a Cancer woman!
I’ve been toying w/2 different ideas, lately:
I love the meaning behind the Celtic Claddagh *friendship, love, loyalty*. That’s me & my relationships w/my husband, family & friends. I really LOVE what it stands for. But I don’t know if it’d be totally g2m b/c I’m not Irish! LMAO I don’t know where to get that, though.
And I’ve been contemplating getting something on the top/back of my neck, too. But not sure what.
Its too bad we weren’t able to hook something up for when you all are here.

I don’t mind them on other people, but they are not for me. Generally one or two on a person doesn’t bother me, but I am not a huge fan of the all over the body ones. I respect people who have that, but it’s just not my style. i think some women look trashy with tatoos, but it’s all about what it is and where it is and all of that. I generally think they look cute.

I have three tatoo’s myself. I don’t care for a body full like the picture you have there . . . but I like one or two well done ones in descreet places . . . kinda like a littel treasure to be found out or hid at your pleasure.
