Lets say you came up to a bus stop bench just as the bus pulled away. You sit down to wait for the next bus and grab at the newspaper that was left sitting on the bench. Just as you open it an envelope falls, you pick it up and it has money in it. Not a large amount, just enough to make you wonder what to do next. Lets say it has an odd amount like $283. What do you do?

Go to Bed,Bath, and Beyond. I mean it is not like you know who left it there right and if you don’t take it then somebody else will.

Gah. Are you ready for the goodie-goodie’s answer? You know, the one who lives in a town with just a handful of Barney Fife’s for police protection.
I’d turn it in to the cops and let them deal with it. There’s no way you could really find out who’s it was and hopefully the “owner” would think to call the police. $283 isn’t a great deal, but maybe it was someone’s grocery money. Or just enough to pick up their Christmas layaway. Point is, you just don’t know and I would not be able to sleep knowing I didn’t turn it in.
Oh, and while the goodie-goodie is at it, this morning I found a brand-spanking new credit card sitting in the lobby and called the credit card company to report that.

welll….if there are no identifying things on the envelope i’d call the bus company and report that i’d found the money. unless of course I was broke..then I might not call anyone..which is bad because I believe in Karma and if I didnt report it, i’d expect to lose somehthing important to me in the near future..so most likely..i’d call the bus company, not because i’m a good person..but because i’m too afraid of the backlash of karma…sigh..deep confesion of the day..lol

Okay, If I have awhile, than I would wait to see if anyone comes back to get it. Turning it in to the police would mean that the police would keep it. Turning it in to the bus company means they would keep it.
I figure if I wait and no one claims it than it is mine. If it was that important, someone would return. I wouldn’t leave it there for them to come back because someone else would get it.
Then I would put it in my savings account.

Call the bus company and give them a number where anyone who reports lost cash can contact you.

I believe in karma, too, Kara. So I’d be afraid of loosing something, like you said.
Carrie, that is the way I see it, too. I hate to say it, but I’m sure that living in Los Angeles has a lot to do with me not being such a trusting person, you know? And that totally blows!
Scribbit, I think my conscience would get the best of me and I’d do the same. But it really would depend on how cheap hotel prices are for that weekend in Vegas! LOL j/k mostly.

Merry Christmas to me. That’s what I would say. Maybe I would use it to do some good, ya know. Like buy a homeless dude lunch. But let’s face it…I’d probably go shopping if no one reported it.

I’d start my Christmas shopping, that’s what I’d do!

I’d look around for a camera watching…then when the coast was clear I would run like the wind….forget the bus….I could hail a cab now.

Go to the liquor store, ho!!
Seriously, if it’s not like, $1000, I’m keeping it. No name, no number, notcho money no mo!!!
I mean, I would certainly take a little time to make sure it’s truly abandoned, but then I’d sleep just fine with my Sephora bags tucked in around me.

Lindsey, I think I’d go home, get online and check out what is new at Coach.com *lol*
Brandi, good idea.
Jen! LOL I thought the same thing: I’d look for a pay phone & call for a ride, I can afford gas money now!
Bethie, you are my girl. I would hit our booze warehouse, get some firewood, then the MARKET to buy stuff to make TACOS and call up mi’ familia! PAAARTAY!

Since it was an odd number, I’d post a lost and found note on craigslist and/or the local papers…. I know, I know…. I’m a sucka.

I’d write about it in my blog. OK, you’ve already done that. I guess that just about covers it!
