My sis and I are 10 years apart. She’s 23 and I’m 33. I was a teen of the 80’s and she was a teen of the 90’s. I love and appreciate 80’s music and movies. She can’t and doesn’t. She just doesn’t get that era. Can you believe she has never heard of Wham!Last night the two of us were having a couple of drinks outside in front of the fire pit and I had asked her if she watched 16 Candles yet. She said she tried but just can’t get into it. So I was the (slightly buzzed) jackass trying to give her the story with hopes it would make her want to watch it. Didn’t happen. She just had this blank look on her face, while I cracked myself up just talking about it! Can you believe she doesn’t know who Anthony Michael Hall is?? I wanted to be just like Molly Ringwald in those days.
I was a teen when house parties were the thing to do on the weekend. Promoters would stand at the gate of our high school and pass out flyers left and right! Anyone else remember those days? Teen dance clubs were not only popular, but SAFE too! We didn’t have cell phones, if you were lucky you had a PAGER! Yeah baby! Stone wash overalls were in and so was M.C. Hammer! Those were the good days. Oh shit, I sound like my parents now.
As I’ve told my friends before, she says The only good thing that came out of the 80’s was Me and Aqua Net. Oh well, so much for trying to influence her with another pop era. I give up. I’m just going to go home and watch Valley Girl.

ugghhh! Stupid blogger. I can’t see the picture.
I love the 80s, now don’t get me wrong, I hated it 10 years ago. My cousin and my friend Nakyla are both 25 and they love 80s shit. I’m glad I lived in the era. I’m proud of my vinyl Thriller album. I loved my parachute pants and my leg warmers. And most of all I couldn’t wait to grow up so I could have a waffle on my head just like Cyndi Lauper.

aaahhhhhh…I really, really love 16 Candles!!! I just watched it the other day and my hubby laughed at me cause I still love it so much! and Valley Girl…that movie totally rocks! parachute pants, the running man, like a virgin, the Breakfast Club…I could go on all day long! and I think I killed many a brain cell in an Aqua Net haze! I think all of us 80’s girls need to pick a day and post a big hair picture of ourselves…I know I’ve got more than a few to choose from!
Hope y’all have a great Thanksgiving!

Girl, you know how I feel about my 80’s. Sis just is clueless. What-ever!
Mom, oooh, I’m in for a big hair day, though my hair was never that big. We’ll have to do that! Great idea!
Cece, oh man. For some reason I keep picturing you with Molly Ringwald’s hair and it is cracking me the fuck up. Bwahahahaha!
I have all my old vinyl records in the basement. My 33s and 45s and one day I will bust them out again. Dare I say it…I even have…..

Oh the 80’s!!! I was a younger 80’s participant because you know you’re older than me, right? LMAO! Love you sailor!!
I had leg warmers and jelly bracelets and jelly shoes for that matter, but I LOVED my charm necklace. Do you remember those? Ahhh!!!
Matt makes fun and says I had big hair in the 90’s and that I should have been born earlier. Punk.

I absolutely love 16 Candles and all the 80’s movies, Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, etc. I have the same thing going on with my sister at times and we’re only 4 years apart. I’ll think something or a movie or T.V. show is soooo damn funny and she has that blank stare on her face. Hard to imagine we came from the same womb!

Two words: Bon Jovi.
‘Nuff said.
I got a sis 11 years younger than me and even SHE knows the 80’s kicked ass. Send yours to me. I can fix this. Marathon of Brat Pack movies and some big hair band music should do the trick.

That’s funny, as I’m reading your post Madonna comes on the T.V. and my 12 year old daughter says, “WHO is THAT?” I found myself explaining the 80s.

Lindsey
Your post cracked me up. I am 25 and I think I am kind of in between…I was probably more of an early 90s child…I mean there were still remnants of the 80s then. But I was old enough to remember and LOVE 16 candles. Oh my god, best movie ever. Because of that movie I was convinced that when I turned 16 I was going to have a boyfriend with a red convertible and he would come take me on dates. For some reason, I’m not sure why, I also thought I would be able to get a red lacy bra and panties when I turned 16…isn’t that random?! Anyway, it didn’t happen in my real life like I thought it would. It never does though, does it?

Michelle, chidhood memories are the best!
Captian, sometimes I make her watch stuff like that with me, but she is more of a Friday & Ice Cube girl. Go figure.
Oh Kara! Banarama! I LOVED them. I seriously wanted to be blonde because of them.
Scribbit, that is a shame, huh? I seriously thought EVERYONE knew who Madonna is!
Jen, I’ve seen MC Hammer perform, too. He was da bomb…back then! I also saw New Edition, when Bobby Brown was clean & sober!
Lindsey, I loved being a teenager in both the 80’s & 90’s. I remember one Christmas (7th grade’ish) all I wanted was flouescent colored clothing, that’s it. I was so disappointed when my mean mom refused to ‘waste her money on something stupid like that’. I was very upset, then. I’m very thankful today. *lol*
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Thanks for stopping by.

I FLIPPIN’ LOVE THE 80′S!!!!
The music, the movies . . . it’s all good stuff!
I am sure I could manage to dig up a few “big 80’s hair” photos from back in the day.
